Your Trusted Partner for Industrial Engineering Solutions
P G Latham has been a trusted name in engineering services for the materials handling industry since 1968. Our company was founded by Gerald Latham in partnership with Terence Armstrong, initially specialising in repairs to contractors' plant and forklift trucks. Over five decades, we have expanded our capabilities to include welding, fabrication, machining, and advanced testing services for lifting equipment. Our in-house operations allow us to maintain flexibility and quality control while adapting to evolving customer needs. We pioneered the development of specialist attachments in the 1970s and moved to our current 35,000 sq.ft. facility in Wigan in the 1980s.Our investment in state-of-the-art inspection equipment since the 1990s has established us as leaders in compliance with international standards like ISO 9001. We specialise in reducing equipment downtime through bespoke engineering solutions while maintaining Safe Contractors accreditation. Our team combines technical expertise with a commitment to safety, serving clients across diverse industrial sectors. Today, we remain family-owned and continue to innovate with services like thermal lancing and line boring.

Services
Preventative NDT Inspections
Our scheduled non-destructive testing services identify potential failures in lifting equipment before they occur. Using magnetic particle inspection and ISO-standard proof load testing, we help businesses maintain compliance with LOLER 98 regulations while minimising downtime. Our engineers provide detailed reports and rapid repair solutions at client sites or our dedicated testing facility.
Fork Arms Manufacturing
We design and manufacture custom fork arms to ISO 2330 standards for all industrial applications. Our services include stainless steel and spark-retardant forks, telescopic and folding designs, and full magnetic particle inspection certification. Bespoke solutions handle loads from standard operations to specialist heavy-duty requirements.
Machining Services
Our comprehensive machining facility handles modifications and repairs for materials handling equipment. Using vertical/horizontal milling machines and CNC technology, we produce precision components including hydraulic rams, mast height adjustments, and bespoke fork parts while maintaining manufacturer specifications.
On-Site Welding
Our certified welders provide on-site fabrication services to international standards including ASME IX and EN287. Using thermal lancing and oxy-fuel cutting technologies, we deliver coded welding solutions supported by our ISO 9001 quality management system and Safe Contractor accreditation.
Lifting Equipment Testing
We offer full LOLER 98 compliance testing for all lifting equipment types, including proof load testing up to 500 tonnes. Our calibrated facilities test fork arms, carriages, and attachments while providing detailed record management and statutory examination certification by qualified competent persons.
